WTNH: East haddam woman earns kennedy service award

WASHINGTON (WTNH) -- East Haddam resident Theresa Govert will be honored by Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Redelet at the John F. Kennedy Serivce Awards in Washington D.C. on September 23rd. She will be one of six members of the Peace Crops to be honored for outstanding public service both here in the U.S. and abroad.

Govert began by serving in Botswana in August of 2013 a was a volunteer leader with a local gender affairs department and non-governmental organization. Currently, she splits time between organizing events focused on gender equality and working  to develop a beauty salon and spa that also provides an alternate employment opportunity for female workers. HARTFORD COURANT: Women Stepping Up To Run For Office

HARTFORD -- On a cold Sunday in February, Theresa Govert was sitting in a corner at the historic Chester Meeting House, working on an introduction of her friend, Christine Palm.

For all the interruptions by well-wishers, Govert couldn't focus. It is a taste of things to come. Govert and Palm are among a new freshman class of women aged 26 to 66 who are running for public office for the first time. See More
